Karuma The Art of Grill at TierraLuna in Puerto Vallarta

As many members may already be aware, the Garza Blanca Preserve in Puerto Vallarta is now home to TierraLuna Gardens, a shopping and entertainment park, with 9 boutiques, a Cultural Forum for weddings and events, a unique family carousel, and outdoor living rooms. This incredible space will also be home to four gourmet restaurants. We are pleased to share with members that Karuma The Art of Grill, the first restaurant planned for the site, has already opened. On your next visit to Puerto Vallarta, make sure you stop by and visit TierraLuna Gardens.

About Karuma The Art of Grill

The chef Patron of Karuma The Art of Grill is the brilliant and talented chef, Andres Garcia, who some members may know from his time working at La Casona STK at Villa del Palmar Cancun. Chef Garcia’s career started humbly selling paella from his parents’ garden, but since those days he has gone on to participate in several gourmet festivals and has worked at several world-class restaurants throughout his 22 years working as a chef. He trained with the renowned chef Thierry Blouet, the founder and owner of Café des Artistes in Puerto Vallarta, for four years.

Chef Garcia composed the menu for Karuma, which is a symphony of flavor. He has brought his wide range of experience and his knowledge of French, Mexican, Italian, and Argentinian cooking techniques to create a stand-out menu at this international grill restaurant. There are twelve cuts of beef available, each thick and ribboned with delicious marbling where aromas, flavors, and textures are taken to the maximum.

Grilling food is one of the earliest ways of cooking, dating back to when hunters first spit-roasted wild animals over open fires, and there is something primordially satisfying about eating grilled food. When next in Puerto Vallarta, whether you crave a succulent steak, smoked brisket, BBQ ribs, or short rib, you should head straight to Karuma Gourmet Grill.

Karuma is a trailblazing departure from traditional grill restaurants and embodies the fierce passion of an open flame. The word Karuma comes from two words in the Mayan language, which together mean “fire in the night.” As you walk through TierraLuna Gardens at night, it becomes clear why this is such an appropriate name; the flames on the grill of this open-plan restaurant burn bright in the night like a beacon to all grill enthusiasts. Without walls or windows, this restaurant’s innovative design puts the kitchen on full display so diners can see the chefs at work.

From your seat at the restaurant, you have a front row seat to panoramic ocean and jungle views. If you arrive in time to watch the sunset, you can witness the crimson colors of the sky before the sun seemingly drops beneath the Pacific Ocean.

If you are drawn to the aromas of short ribs slow-cooked for 8 hours over night in a veal demi-glace sauce, try the Short Rib Chicharrón, a traditional pork dish with a Mexican twist. Or perhaps you desire a meat dish that falls apart beneath your fork, in that case you must try the Smoked Brisket. If you are having a romantic dinner for two and crave a steakhouse classic, the Chateaubriand is a 21oz fillet of tenderloin perfect for sharing, where the meat cuts like butter and melts in your mouth. Or if you are extra hungry, try the 35oz Tomahawk steak. Whichever dish you choose to order, you can be assured that only the finest cuts of meat are being grilled here.

If you crave something other than beef, the menu also features suckling pig, smoky grilled chicken, and a juicy rack of lamb. If your taste buds demand something fresh from the sea, try the colossal shrimp, king crab, or grilled octopus.

Of course, Chef Garcia has created dishes to appeal to all the vegetarians and vegans out there, too. Signature dishes such as Vegan Tostadas, Mushroom Bisque, and Spinach Salad with baby beets and goat's cheese will delight anyone’s palate.

Karuma also features an extensive wine list with red, white, and rosé available by the glass or by the bottle: ask your waiter to recommend the perfect pairing for your meal.

The menu would not be complete without the wealth of side dishes available, everything from grilled vegetables, mac and cheese, and potatoes made five ways is available. Add to that the variety of flavorsome sauces and the knowledgeable and friendly waiters, and you’ll see why Karuma The Art of Grill has the recipe for success.

Garcia’s astonishing menu offers a unique culinary experience for every member and guest who steps foot in the restaurant all enhanced by the atmosphere of the magical TierraLuna Gardens nestled between the jungle and the sea. Come visit us once and we are sure that you’ll want to return!
