Small Choices, Big Impact
You don’t have to “go full eco” to make a difference on vacation. Here are a few easy, realistic habits that keep our favorite destinations Cabo, Puerto Vallarta, and Cancún, beautiful for the next trip (and the next generation). Simple choices, zero stress.
Eco-Friendly Practices When Visiting TAFER Resorts
To begin with, let's be honest - No traveler goes to Mexico thinking about recyclable waste containers. You're there for the ocean air, the warmth of the evenings, the relaxation of a long day by the pool, and, often, the opportunity to say, "Do we have to leave a bit earlier?" and answer with "yes."
However, when traveling to incredible locations like Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta, and Cancun, the least you can do is take a couple of minutes to contribute to helping these places remain just as beautiful for you and the next group of TAFER Residence Club Members for many years to come.
This is NOT about the rules or lectures. It's simply about sharing a few thoughtful and easy ways you can enjoy your vacation and at the same time show respect for the great destinations you've grown to love.
Easy Ways to Have a Significant Impact
There are some incredibly simple ways to contribute that will make a significant difference. For example, using reusable towels and opting out of having linens changed every day during an extended stay uses significantly less energy and water and allows you to have a clean room without all the extra work.
Another simple thing to get into the habit of is bringing a refillable water bottle. Reducing single-use plastics, staying hydrated in the heat, and saving time throughout your stay can be made easier by simply filling your water bottle before leaving your room and whenever you see one of our refill stations. By staying hydrated, you'll have enough energy to continue enjoying your vacation.

Check the Beach Before You Leave
Taking a quick 10 seconds to glance around the beach before you leave can make a huge difference. Single lightweight items such as cups or wrappers can be carried off by the wind. Getting your entire family involved (asking everyone to grab two items) makes protecting the shoreline easy and fast.
Preserving natural areas also means sticking to the designated trails. In desert environments, plants and vegetation take a long time to recover, and staying on designated trails will help preserve those fragile ecosystems while allowing the view to continue to be enjoyed by everyone.
Exploring Cabo San Lucas Naturally
Cabo San Lucas has a truly unique environment - desert meets ocean. This creates endless opportunities to experience nature without impacting it much.
TAFER Members can:
- Take a sunrise beach walk
- Go on a nature-oriented outing
- Commit to leaving each area as beautiful as it was when you arrived
The stunning views in Cabo are already there. All you have to do is go out and experience them.

Exploring Puerto Vallarta
Puerto Vallarta is alive, vibrant, and lush.
Early morning or late afternoon walks, when the lighting is soft and the pace is slow are a great way for TAFER Members to enjoy Puerto Vallarta. When you plan a culturally or nature-based event, and use fewer disposables, you reduce your environmental footprint while increasing your experiences.
Leisurely Days in Cancun
In Cancun, simplicity really does work.
TAFER Members can enjoy a quiet morning by the beach, apply sunscreen responsibly according to local guidelines, and spend a few seconds scanning the sand before returning to their accommodations.
You don't need a busy schedule to enjoy Cancun. Many of the most memorable days were spent having a lazy morning meal, swimming, taking a mid-day break, and spending the evening quietly.

Travel With Intention
Eco-friendly tourism isn't about doing less; it's about being a little more mindful.
- Reusable towels
- Reusable water bottles
- Beach surveys
- Slow-paced, scenic walks
These small habits can make a big difference in preserving the beauty of the destinations that inspired your trip.
- Enjoy the weather.
- Enjoy the beaches.
- Enjoy the landscapes.
When you leave, leave it just as nice as you found it.
